Former Carolina Hurricanes center Eric Staal announced his retirement from the NHL after an 18-season career. Staal, drafted 2nd overall in 2003, played for the Hurricanes before joining several other teams. Carolina will retire Staal's No. 12 jersey in an upcoming season, and he finishes his career with 455 goals, 608 assists, and 1,063 points in 1,365 games.
