The US preterm birth rate has risen by 8% since 2014, with 1 in 10 babies born prematurely in 2022, according to a study by Northwell Health in partnership with Stacker using CDC data. The reasons for the increase are unclear, but factors contributing to preterm births, such as smoking, drug use, weight, and multiple pregnancies, are already well-documented.
