Greggs reports 16.3% increase in pre-tax profits to £74.1m, driven by pizza box deals and iced summer drinks; plans to open 500 new stores.

Greggs, the UK bakery chain, has reported a 16.3% increase in underlying pre-tax profits to £74.1 million for the six months to June 29, driven by strong demand for its pizza box deals and iced summer drinks. Total sales rose 13.8% to £960.6 million during the period. Greggs plans to open at least 500 new stores, increasing its total to at least 3,000, following a sales surge that nearly reached £1 billion in the first half of the year.
