Rolls-Royce SMR Limited's 470 MWe Small Modular Reactor (SMR) design has successfully completed the second stage of the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process conducted by the Environment Agency, Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), and Natural Resources Wales (NRW). The GDA ensures new nuclear power stations meet high safety, security, environmental protection, and waste management standards. Rolls-Royce SMR will now advance to Step 3, involving more detailed examination of the design and public consultation, marking the first time the modernised GDA process has been applied to an SMR design and the first time it has been used for Rolls-Royce SMR.
