Robert Downey Jr. is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as a villain in an upcoming "Avengers" film. The actor, who rose to fame as Iron Man, will play the villainous Doctor Doom in "Avengers: Doomsday" set for release in 2026. Downey will also appear in the sequel "Avengers: Secret Wars" in 2027. This announcement was made at Marvel's panel during San Diego Comic-Con, where other news about the MCU and its future was revealed.
