Apple has revealed, in a research paper, that it used Google's custom chips to train its AI models that underpin Apple Intelligence. The iPhone maker utilized 2,048 of Google's TPUv5p chips for its AI model for iPhones and other devices and used 8192 TPUv4 processors for its server AI model. Apple's choice of Google's homegrown Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) for training signals that Big Tech companies are looking for alternatives to Nvidia when it comes to training cutting-edge AI.
