34-year-old Matthew Fadeyi has been sentenced to 5.5 years in prison for raping a young woman, an acquaintance, after dropping her off in August 2018. Fadeyi, from Navan, Co Meath, was convicted of one count of rape in a retrial in May, after a jury failed to reach a verdict during the first trial in 2021. The judge noted that the victim was "relatively young and inexperienced" and that Fadeyi did not use a condom, adding to her distress.
