University of Waterloo's Climate Institute report predicts extreme heat days in Oxford County could increase to 55 annually by 2080s due to unchecked climate change.

A new report by the University of Waterloo's Climate Institute suggests that extreme heat days in the region, currently at single-digit levels, could increase to over 50 annually by the 2080s if climate change remains unchecked. In this scenario, Oxford County could experience 55 heat days a year, up from the current three. Elgin County and St. Thomas could face 51 heat days annually, compared to the current baseline of two. The rise in temperatures is attributed to the burning of fossil fuels, which produce heat-trapping gases.
