A well-known mama grizzly bear named 222 and her two cubs have survived Jasper's devastating wildfire, which destroyed 30% of the townsite. Parks Canada officials report that the bears found safety in a wet area by the Athabasca River when the flames approached. The female grizzly, who is frequently seen around the Jasper Park Lodge, has a GPS collar to track her movements.
