Consumer NZ research shows 1 million New Zealanders feel excluded from the homeowners' club, as home ownership in the country drops below 60% for the first time since 1945. 60% of non-property owners feel buying a house is not within their reach, with 41% feeling completely locked out and 19% struggling to save enough for a deposit. Those in Nelson and the Bay of Plenty feel most excluded, while those aged 40-49 are most likely to have lost hope of ever purchasing a property.
