Lucas resident Chris Benham installed a solar system to combat rising energy bills, but Victoria reduces tariff for solar panel owners, decreasing payment to 3.3c/kWh.

Lucas resident Chris Benham installed a $25,000 solar system to combat rising energy bills, which reached $550 in June, $200 more than the same time last year. The system, including solar panels and batteries, now generates around 60-70% of his home's electricity. However, solar panel owners in Victoria will receive less money for pumping energy back into the grid due to tariff changes, with the base rate dropping to 3.3c/kWh, a 32% decrease from the 2023-24 rate.
