French police are investigating a letter addressed to Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, containing black powder and a letter with insults, which tested positive for traces of the plague. The envelope was discovered in Dijon and is under further analysis; initial results may be a false positive. Plague, caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis, is transmitted to humans through rodent flea bites or handling infected animals.
