Albanese government's 'right to disconnect' law increases workload for Fair Work Commission as disputes rise.
The Albanese government's 'right to disconnect' law is increasing workload for the Fair Work Commission, which is hiring more staff and preparing for an influx of workplace disputes. By August 26, 2024, the Commission plans to include the right to disconnect term in all 155 modern awards. The law allows employees to refuse to respond to their employer's contact outside of working hours, unless the refusal is unreasonable. The Commission has issued fact sheets to help employees and employers understand their rights and responsibilities.
