17-year-old Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh won Canada's first Olympic medal in Paris, securing silver in the women's 400m freestyle event. McIntosh, who also holds the world record in the women's 400 individual medley, finished behind Australian gold medalist Ariarne Titmus. This marks McIntosh's first Olympic medal after missing out on a podium finish in the same event at the Tokyo Games in 2019.
