Singapore's homegrown farming dream faces challenges as high costs, cheaper imports, and red tape hamper urban farming start-ups. Funding for these ventures has been decreasing, leading to closures or scaling back of operations for at least half a dozen large farms since the beginning of 2023. The "30 by 30" initiative, aiming for 30% local food production by 2030, currently harvests less than 10% of its seafood and vegetables.
