NSW Premier Chris Minns plans to introduce legislation in September to ban "no-grounds" evictions, requiring landlords to provide reasons for ending tenancies.

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns plans to introduce legislation in September to ban "no-grounds" evictions, requiring landlords to provide a reason to end tenancies for both periodic and fixed-term leases. The proposed reforms include existing rules for breach of lease, damage to property, or non-payment of rent, as well as eviction reasons such as property being sold with vacant possession, requiring significant repairs, or no longer being used as a rental. Landlords may face fines for making up "non-genuine" reasons to evict tenants.
