Judge sides with Miami commissioner Joe Carollo, protecting his Coconut Grove home from seizure amidst a $63.5 million lawsuit debt. Federal Magistrate Judge Lauren Louis filed a report siding against Little Havana business owners, William Fuller and Martin Pinilla, who claimed Carollo violated their First Amendment rights. Louis concluded that Carollo's intent to permanently reside at the Morris Lane property as his homestead was sufficient to grant the homestead exemption from seizure.
