1,284 DR Congo inmates, 421 first, receive conditional release from overcrowded Makala Central Prison due to good behavior and sentence completion.

1,284 inmates at DR Congo's Makala Central Prison will receive conditional release to address overcrowding, with the first 421 inmates released after serving at least three-quarters of their sentence & demonstrating good behavior. This is part of a series of measures to improve detention conditions & reform the DRC's prison system. The prison, built for 1,500, currently holds around 15,000 prisoners.
