33-year-old Rockford man, Alejandro Vargas, faces murder charges over the 2021 death of his fiancée, Ashley Ibarra, 26, who was found dead in their apartment with a lethal level of fentanyl in her system. New evidence discovered in late 2023 led to the charges, and Vargas is currently serving a three-year sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections for unrelated charges.
