84-year-old Charles "Charley" Royer, Seattle's longest-serving mayor (1978-1990), passed away. Serving three terms, Royer was a progressive leader who introduced initiatives including recognizing domestic partnerships, low-income housing measures, and a recycling & waste reduction plan. He also oversaw the development of the Washington State Convention Center and the relocation of the Seattle Art Museum.
