WhatsApp, owned by Meta, hasn't informed India about plans to shut down services, while previously stating they would do so if forced to break message encryption.
WhatsApp and its parent company Meta have not informed the Indian government of plans to shut down its services in India, according to a statement by I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Previously, WhatsApp had told the Delhi High Court it would stop functioning in India if compelled to break message encryption. Meta had challenged the new IT Rules, claiming they violate privacy rights and are unconstitutional.
