Researchers discover common mouth bacteria, Fusobacterium, can 'melt' certain cancers. Scientists at Guy's and St Thomas' and King's College London found that patients with head and neck cancer containing Fusobacterium had significantly improved survival rates. In laboratory studies, the bacteria reduced viable head and neck cancer cells by 70-99%. The exact mechanisms behind this link are being further studied.
