National Weather Service updates cold weather advisories, issuing "Cold Weather Advisories" for 30° below zero and "Cold Weather Warnings" for 40° below or colder.

Starting this winter, the National Weather Service will update its cold weather advisories. Instead of issuing Wind Chill Advisories at 25 deg below zero and Wind Chill Warnings at 40 deg below, they will issue "Cold Weather Advisories" for temperatures/wind chills around 30 deg below zero, and "Cold Weather Warnings" for conditions of 40 deg below or colder. This change aims to provide timely warnings and protect people from frostbite and cold weather-related fatalities.
