A plane crash in northeastern Wyoming caused fatalities and sparked a wildfire on Friday, according to authorities. The plane crashed at about 1 p.m. north of Gillette near the Wyoming state line, and a distress signal was sent out by the plane before the crash. Callers later reported seeing smoke columns rising into the air near the suspected crash site. The wildfire is being suppressed using aircraft, heavy equipment, and engine crews, and the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.
