Experts warn that "time is running out" for Canada to improve trade efforts with the U.S., as a looming review of a crucial trade agreement could leave the country disadvantaged. The independent Expert Group on Canada-U.S. Relations, comprised of former diplomats, policy advisers, and business leaders, was created amid concerns that Ottawa was "sleepwalking" ahead of the 2026 review of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA). A new report from the group urges Ottawa to develop and initiate a clear strategy, appoint a chief negotiator, and engage with Canada's business community.
