One-time passwords (OTPs) sent via text messages, or SMS, are vulnerable to fraudster attacks like phishing, SIM swapping, and message interception. As a result, cybersecurity professionals recommend replacing OTPs due to cybersecurity risks. While not perfect, downloading authenticator apps, such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator, on mobile devices is considered a better option.
