Colorado's Supreme Court has appointed Justice Monica M. Márquez as its new Chief Justice, making her the first Latina, third female, and longest-tenured openly LGBTQ state justice to hold the position. She succeeds Justice Brian D. Boatright and has served since her appointment by Gov. Bill Ritter in 2010. The court has since implemented three-year rotations for justices.
