Children twice more likely to develop type 1 diabetes if father has it, per new study.

A new study reveals that children are almost twice as likely to develop type 1 diabetes if their father has the condition compared to if their mother has it. The research, published in Diabetologia, shows that exposure to type 1 diabetes in the womb offers long-term protection to children with affected mothers, but not to those with affected fathers. Understanding the factors behind this relative protection could lead to new treatments to prevent type 1 diabetes.
