2024-25 Central Budget allocates Rs 11,000 crore for flood management in Sikkim and Assam, as PM Modi aims to make the northeast region 'Purvodaya'

Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia said Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to make the northeast region the growth engine of India, dubbing it 'Purvodaya' as the gateway to India's progress and prosperity. The region has seen a significant increase in central funding since 2014, with the DoNER Ministry's budget rising from Rs 1,750 crore under the previous Congress regime to Rs 6,000 crore currently. In the Central Budget 2024-25, Rs 11,000 crore has been allocated for flood management in Sikkim and Assam.
