Brazil reported the world's first Oropouche virus deaths, with two women under 30 in the state of Bahia succumbing to the disease transmitted by infected flies and mosquitoes. The victims, without pre-existing health conditions, displayed symptoms similar to severe dengue. Since 1960, the virus has primarily been reported in Brazil's Amazon region and Latin America, causing 7,236 infections this year.
