US Navy fighter squadron VFA-105, or Strike Fighter Squadron 105, scored several firsts while combating the Houthis from the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower in the Red Sea. The nine-month deployment involved defending merchant shipping lanes and fending off relentless Houthi missile and drone attacks. The squadron, which uses F/A-18E Super Hornet fighter jets, intercepted dozens of Houthi drones and carried out strikes against Iran-backed rebels in Yemen.
