UK government announces £100,000 interim compensation for infected blood scandal victims' estates.
The UK government has announced that the estates of people who died due to the infected blood scandal can claim a £100,000 interim compensation payment from October. Paymaster General Nick Thomas-Symonds told MPs that ministers are committed to delivering the compensation "as soon as possible." The infected blood scandal involved over 30,000 people in the UK being infected with HIV and hepatitis C after receiving contaminated blood products in the 1970s and 1980s, resulting in over 3,000 deaths.
