Rescued malnourished Pacific walrus calf found near Alaska's Utqiagvik recovers at Alaska SeaLife Center.
A rescued Pacific walrus calf, seemingly left behind by her herd near Alaska's northernmost city, is now alert and "sassy" as she recovers at a wildlife response center 800 miles away. The calf, weighing almost 165 pounds (75 kilograms), was found to be malnourished, dehydrated, and had superficial wounds when she arrived at the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward from Utqiagvik. The cause of her separation from the herd remains unknown.
