Federal appeals court rejects J&J's bankruptcy strategy to settle talc cancer lawsuits.

Johnson & Johnson's (J&J) attempt to revive a bankruptcy strategy aimed at settling thousands of talc cancer lawsuits has been rejected by a federal appeals court. The court upheld a bankruptcy judge's dismissal from last year of J&J subsidiary LTL Management LLC, which was created to handle talc-related health claims. The ruling comes as J&J seeks to set aside $6.5bn to resolve ovarian cancer claims as part of a $11bn settlement for current and future baby powder litigation.
