Yellowstone National Park has finalized a new bison management plan, which allows for a population range of 3,500 to 6,000 animals after calving, averaging around 5,000 bison, consistent with the 10-year average. The plan aims to balance bison population management with new scientific information and circumstances, working with Interagency Bison Management Plan (IBMP) partners to control bison population numbers. The previous plan, completed in 2000, targeted about 3,000 bison in the park's boundaries.
