44-year-old Hayley Matthews has been jailed for embezzling £120,000 from her dementia-afflicted mother and using the funds for an extravagant lifestyle. The theft was exposed when family members questioned the size of the mother's estate after her death in 2021. Hayley Matthews pleaded guilty to one charge of embezzlement at Edinburgh Sheriff Court and was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.
