US military built Gaza pier for aid delivery, but 96% of Gazans still face acute food insecurity.
The US military built a humanitarian pier off the Gaza coast in March as a symbol of aid, but its mission ended four months later with its main accomplishment being the delivery of over 9,000 tonnes of aid. Despite these efforts, 96% of Palestinians in Gaza still face "acute food insecurity," according to the UN World Food Programme. The pier's cost was estimated at $230m.
