UNESCO decides against listing Lumbini, Lord Buddha's birthplace in Nepal, as a heritage site in danger, granting more time for restoration.

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee has decided against putting Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha in Nepal, on the list of heritage sites in danger. UNESCO gave authorities in Nepal more time to help restore the famous gardens and temple which are falling into disrepair. Lumbini, a World Heritage Site since 1997, was recommended for inclusion on the agency's list of sites in danger due to the deterioration of key features and an "alarming state of conservation."
