flag 18th-century sundial for Argyll, founder of Royal Bank of Scotland, acquired by National Museum of Scotland.

The National Museum of Scotland has acquired a 18th-century "masterpiece" sundial, commissioned for Archibald Campbell, Earl of Ilay and later third Duke of Argyll, founder of the Royal Bank of Scotland. The Ilay Glynne dial, made around 1715, was used to measure local time from the sun and could be used at any latitude. It is currently on display at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.
