2023 Norwegian study finds surgical masks in public reduce self-reported respiratory symptoms risk by 3.2%.

A study in Norway found that wearing surgical face masks in public spaces reduces the risk of self-reported respiratory symptoms by 3.2%. The randomized controlled trial included 4,575 adults between 10 February and 27 April 2023. The researchers suggest that these findings support face masks as an effective measure to reduce the rate of self-reported symptoms consistent with respiratory tract infections.
