Gina Rinehart used her political connections to lobby for the removal of a portrait of her from the National Gallery of Australia (NGA). Gallery director Nick Mitzevich warned the federal arts minister, Tony Burke, about the mounting complaints, mentioning that opposition leader Peter Dutton, who is close to Rinehart, might raise the issue in parliament. The portrait by artist Vincent Namatjira depicted Rinehart in a negative light and was accused of perpetuating stereotypes and undermining her achievements.
