EU Commission President von der Leyen requests gender-balanced Commission nominees from member states, including Ireland, by August 30.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has requested member states, including Ireland, to nominate two candidates for each Commission post - one man and one woman - to achieve a gender-balanced team of commissioners. The nominees will be interviewed by von der Leyen, who will then allocate portfolios before the European Parliament approves them. Member states have until August 30 to submit their nominees for the next five-year term.
