103-year-old World War II veteran Louis Gigliotti, who has been paying his medical bills out-of-pocket for 78 years, is finally receiving his veterans benefits from the U.S. government. Gigliotti, a former U.S. Army medical technician, only realized he could access "free perks" like health care after his caretaker Melanie Carey started helping him pay his medical bills. Gigliotti is honored by family, friends, and patrons at the Alaska Veterans Museum in Anchorage, where he lives with his nephew's family.
