44-year-old motorcyclist Nicholas Owen Reed was shot and killed by a Virginia State Trooper on July 18 after a chase for reckless driving. The pursuit began on Route 460 in Botetourt County, continuing onto the Blue Ridge Parkway where Reed crashed into a closed gate. When attempting to exit the parkway, Reed pulled a gun, leading the trooper to fire. The trooper has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is underway.
