Wisconsin unveils first statue of a person of color, honoring Vel Phillips, at the Capitol.
Wisconsin will unveil a statue of Vel Phillips, the first Black woman to graduate from the University of Wisconsin Law School and the state's first Black judge, at its Capitol this weekend. About 1,000 people are expected to attend the gala event, marking the first time a person of color will be honored with a statue at the Capitol. The task force has been working on this for four years.
