UN committee urges immediate release of detained Jordanian World Cup organizer Abdullah Ibhais, arrested in 2019 for raising migrant worker concerns.

A UN committee has called for the immediate release of Abdullah Ibhais, a Jordanian former media manager for Qatar's World Cup organizing committee, who has been arbitrarily detained for nearly three years. Ibhais was arrested in 2019 after raising concerns over the treatment of migrant workers on World Cup construction projects. FIFA refused to publicly support calls for Ibhais to receive a fair trial, and he was later arrested again in November 2021, serving a three-year sentence for bribery.
