Legendary New Orleans musician Lionel Paul Batiste Jr., original member of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, has passed away. Batiste, son of renowned musician Uncle Lionel Batiste Sr., was a drummer for the band which played a significant role in reviving the brass band genre in New Orleans and the US. The band announced his death on July 22, and his passing has been mourned by local musicians.
