1901 Project: $7bn plan from Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks owners to transform United Center area with green spaces, mixed-income housing, music hall, over a decade.
The owners of the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks unveiled a $7bn plan called the 1901 Project to transform the area surrounding the United Center. The largest private investment in Chicago's West Side aims to replace parking lots with green spaces, mixed-income housing, a music hall, and more over a decade-long period, starting next spring if approved by the city. The project will be spearheaded by the Reinsdorf and Wirtz families, and the first phase includes a 6,000-seat theater, a multilevel parking facility, and pedestrian-friendly sidewalks, with future phases incorporating housing options and transportation enhancements.
