Brazil plans to expand selective logging in the Amazon rainforest over the next two years, designating an area the size of Costa Rica for the project. The move aims to combat ongoing deforestation and preserve the forest, while generating jobs in economically underdeveloped parts of the Amazon. Companies granted timber concessions must follow strict rules, including logging up to six trees per hectare over a 30-year period, protecting certain species, and older trees.
