Arunachal Pradesh, a northeastern Indian state, ranks among the top four states with high substance abuse rates, according to Health & Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge. A survey revealed the widespread consumption of eight categories of psychoactive substances, including historical opium cultivation and consumption. Responding to the issue, the state government established the Arunachal Pradesh Drug De-Addiction Society and several rehabilitation centers, and plans to provide opium substitution therapy in 14 districts.
